Storied Woods produces standard and commissioned wood turnings from the finest, hand selected, domestic and exotic woods. We personally choose all of the woods that go into our turnings. Our pieces have been made from such woods as maple burl, cocobolo, bocote, rosewood, bloodwood, canarywood, pink ivory, walnut, oak, and spalted maples, pecans, and beeches. Every wood has its own unique and natural beauty … every turning strives to find and free that beauty…..
Among the pieces we turn are bowls, vases, hollow forms, and our own unique styles of award winning turned and carved wood turned art. There is an endless world of practical and decorative uses for turnings from Storied Woods.
As a wood turner for over 30 years, my work encompasses both functional and artistic forms, including natural edge turnings, classic bowls and vases, business and home accessories, as well as pieces combining turning and carving techniques for discerning collectors of wood art.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, raised in Chicago, and resided in Southern California for over 50 years. My studio is currently located in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I began woodworking in 1977 making furniture, fly tying boxes and bookcases. My first lathe was purchased in 1984 and so began my love with the turned form of artistic expression. I am a full-time artist and my work is currently sold through select art galleries and specialty shops.
I handpick all my woods from the finest domestic and exotic stocks available. All of the woods I use are obtained through legal and environmentally responsible sources.
My multiple, award-winning creative pieces have evolved out of a high regard for craft and craftsmanship and openness toward artistic experimentation. Each piece of wood is unique in its shape, figure, grain, coloring, and flaws. By incorporating the most exciting and interesting of these elements with classic and innovative designs and fine craftsmanship, I strive to offer a distinctive variety of turned wood art.
We have recently relocated to Colorado. The best way to contact us is currently via email. Please note "Storied Woods New Location" in the subject line. We look forward to hearing from you.
